Ductile cast iron, also known as ductile iron, is a graphite-rich cast iron alloy used for cast iron. Customized Ductile Cast Irons are produced for applications requiring strength, toughness, good machinability, and low cost. Ductile iron contains nodular (spheroidal) graphite, which is stronger than grey cast iron and about 10% lighter than steel for the same cross-sectional dimensions. Therefore, it has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio while costing less than steel castings.
